About Surviving the Western Horse, Dick Edie, and Dick's Western Training:
I guess I started writing as one way to keep myself entertained when I was working around cow camps in my younger days. It worked pretty well at keeping me entertained--nobody else paid much attention to it. In my senior years, I'm putting a little more effort into it.
I decided to put together Surviving the Western Horse because of the number of people that I see who are constantly having trouble with their horses and don't know what to do about it. Also, the number of people who are having trouble with their horses, and don't even know that they're having trouble.
There are many misconceptions about horse training. The key to the situation is understanding each individual horse. Horses, like people are not all the same--we can not treat them all the same.
Some of what I have to say in Surviving the Western Horse may be of some help.
